Musical Vibrations: A Great Tool Of Diverse Therapies

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Everything vibrates. Everything in the body vibrates, all at its own special frequency. This is a scientific fact. When we are thrown out of balance through physical, emotional or psychic shocks, parts of our bodies and psyche can weaken or overload, creating distorted and unbalanced vibrations. Through the pioneering work of auditory psychic Sharry Edwards, Vibrational Sound therapy (called Bioacoustics in America) has been developed. Low frequency sound waves (generally below 50hz) are fed back to the body via the brain and re-mind the body where it has become out of balance, what the original healthy frequency was.

When the low frequency sound waves that you most need are played back to you, they balance these peaks and troughs to bring the mind and body back to a harmonious state. In this state, the healing can take place. The sound waves are actually vibrating the areas where the energy has become low or distorted, reminding the brain and body of the healthy vibration that was originally there before the problem began.

Thus Vibrational sounds are used as a tool of therapy. Various researches are going on this area. Digital Music and Musical Vibrations deal in various kinds of therapies. Dr. Julie can explain the role of Musical vibrations and the Digital Music in various kind of therapies. To know more about Digital Music, visit Dr. Julie.

How Do You Get From Here to There?

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

If I was going to drive from Brisbane to Perth, and I’d never made the trek before, it would be easy for me to just think, ‘Yeah, I know where I’m going, and our road system is good enough, so I’ll just get in the car and drive, following the road signs along the way’. A few hours into the trip, when I’m feeling a little fatigued and distracted, I might miss a couple of signs and after a while, find myself at the back of nowhere heading north instead of west. I might panic for a moment, start to stress, and spend a lot of time, effort and energy getting back on track again. Sure, I’ll eventually make it to Perth, but it will have taken me longer and cost me more than it would have if I’d taken the time to plan the trip before I headed off.

We all need a good road map (yes, even the blokes!).

Many of us treat our personal and business lives in the same way – we head off in the general direction of where we want to get to, hoping that we’ll spot all the right signs along the way, and when we find ourselves off track, it can really throw us for a loop! Just like in our road trip example, we don’t make firm plans for where we want to go, how we’re going to get there, and where we should be at certain points in time…and then we wonder why we’re working so hard but not getting to where we want to be.

In my experience, the most common things that stop people from achieving their goals are:

Lack of planning and procrastination.

And sometimes we even procrastinate the planning! We all like to put off doing difficult or uncomfortable things, it is a perfectly human thing to do, but it often leaves us stuck on the road to nowhere.

If there’s anything that you want or need to do in life, realise that there will never be a more perfect time to start making it happen than right now, today. All you need to do is make the decision to just get on with it – stop thinking, worrying and stressing about it, and start doing it.

How? The fastest and easiest way to get from A to B, from Brisbane to Perth, or from where you are today to wherever you want to be, is to create a road map for yourself by setting goals. I’m going to walk you through how to do that, but before we get started, it’s important to point out the difference between dreams and goals. Dreams are just that, they’re fuzzy, feel-good fantasies that live in our imaginations, and that’s often where they stay. We all need to have dreams, but we also want to make some of those dreams a reality in our lives, and that’s what a goal is: something that we are aiming to actually make happen. Goals are the road maps that we create for our lives, they pinpoint exactly where we’re going and how we’re going to get there, and they help to give us a sense of purpose, direction and achievement in life.

So let’s start setting goals.

1. Make sure your goals light you up.
The things we usually put off doing the most are the things we don’t like doing; the things that bore us; that aren’t fun and that don’t give us a sense of satisfaction. So, if you set goals around doing things that make you feel that way, you won’t make a true commitment to achieving them. Sure, we can’t always spend our days doing our favourite things, but there has to be a great pay-off in it for you – your goals have to light you up from the inside; they have to ‘feel’ right for you.

GOAL BOOSTER

Because I am a natural health practitioner I use and recommend a lot of ‘natural medicines’ that can help in all areas of our lives. Ginger is a herb that is excellent for giving you a metaphorical ‘kick in the pants’! It’s brilliant for getting procrastinators into action. Anytime you need a bit of a push along:

Brew yourself a cup of fresh ginger herb tea (hot or iced). Take a knob of fresh ginger, grate or chop it, and infuse a teaspoon in a cup of hot water – drink it warm or let it cool and drink as a tangy iced tea.

Use some aromatherapy in your home or workplace. Vaporising some ginger essential oil, in combination with other energising essential oils such as May Chang and Grapefruit, will help keep you focused on the task at hand and lighten your mood when you’re feeling bogged down by it all. I have created an oil blend for this very purpose, it’s called Play More, just add 5-10 drops to an electric room vaporiser or car vaporiser.

2. Write your goals in language that excites you into action.
What impact do you think your language has on your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing, and on what you achieve in your life? We all know someone who is ‘Mr or Ms Negative’, they always have a problem, an excuse, and a reason for why they can’t do what they want to do, or why they aren’t getting the results they want – and it’s always someone else’s fault! In reality, it is that little voice that we all have inside of us that can make us doubt and question ourselves – and some people are better at managing it than others.

3. Be Positive.
You’ll never get that little voice to be quiet, but you can take control of what it’s saying and what you choose to pay attention to. The key to changing your self-talk is to first begin noticing it, and then to replace the negative commentary with a positive one. For example, you could replace existing scripts such as ‘I can’t do this’ with ‘I’m learning how to do this’, or ‘I am determined to become good at this’, or ‘I know I can do this’. So when you’re setting and reviewing your goals always use positive language, confident and inspiring words that describe you achieving your goals, and leave no room for negativity.

4. Shoot for the stars – one step at a time.

Goals are about stretching yourself to achieve the things you want in your life, but we still have to focus on taking manageable steps along the way – you don’t have to achieve a lifetime’s worth of goals this year! For example, if I were to write down a goal to buy a $1 million beach house, and I earn $50,000 per year, the stress that sits behind this goal will sabotage my achieving it. It’s called non-integrative thinking. So while you might set a big bold goal such as this, within a short period of time you will start to realise that the goal is way too hard at this point in time, and that you’re not likely to realise it within the timeframe that you’ve set yourself, so you give up on it and it ends up becoming a de-motivator that spreads into other areas of your life as well. Remember, goals are meant to inspire you, not to set you up for failure, so make sure they’re challenging but achievable.

5. Set goals for your personal and business life.
Setting goals in all areas of your life will help to ensure that you maintain a sense of balance, which in itself can help you to keep up the momentum needed to achieve your goals. Start by setting goals around:

Family and home life
Physical body and health
Emotional health
Spiritual health
Finances and career
Continued education
Social life and relationships

6. Write your goals in great detail.
The more information and detail that you put into your goals, the more efficient your subconscious mind will be at helping you to achieve them. You see, when you write down a detailed goal, your subconscious mind takes that as an instruction to make that thing happen. It’s like when you decide to buy a new car, and you suddenly start to see that same type of car everywhere – what we tune our subconscious minds in to, we bring into our lives. So, if you’re setting a goal to take an overseas holiday, put all of the details about that trip into your goal – who you’ll fly with, where you’ll stay, what you’ll see there and so on. The more detail, the better.

GOAL BOOSTER

Our memories are strongly linked to our sense of smell, you’ve probably had the experience when you smell a particular aroma and in an instant it takes you to another place and time in your mind. You can also use this memory association to help you focus on your goals. For example, this year one of my goals is to go to Turkey for the rose harvest (as an aromatherapist this is a very cool thing to do), so I have been vaporising rose essential oil and using a rosewater spritzer every day to help keep me focused on achieving that goal.

7. Keep them in your face.
Out of sight, out of mind. If you don’t remind yourself of your goals every day, it’s very easy to lose track of them and just get busy with the day-to-day demands of life. I keep my goals in my diary, so that I see them every day. Reviewing your goals daily is a crucial part of your success and vital to make sure that your conscious and subconscious minds are focused on working toward them. Take a few minutes each morning to read your goals and visualise yourself achieving them (really do a little daydreaming here, imagine what it would look like and feel like to have achieved your goals), this is a technique that sportspeople use all the time to help them stay focused and committed.

8. Monitor your progress and adjust your goals. Review your goals periodically and adjust them as you go – just because you’ve set a goal doesn’t mean you can’t make changes to it along the way, you’ve got to be flexible. As you look at your goals and plan your day, ask yourself if what you are doing is taking you toward your goals or not. If it is, you know you’re on the right track, and if it’s not, see whether it’s your goal or your actions that need to be adjusted to get you heading in the right direction again. When you do find yourself off track don’t give yourself a hard time for it (I did say ‘when’ not ‘if’ because we’re all only human and we all wonder off track now and then), just be glad that you realised it, and get back to what you know you should be doing.

GOAL BOOSTER

Learn to put up your hand and ask for help when you need it. You may never be able to achieve some of your goals without a little help or guidance along the way – but for some people (myself included), learning to put ego aside and ask for help can be a goal in itself! You’ll reach your goals, faster and easier and give other people the opportunity to be of service to you and to share in your success if you just learn to ask for what you need.

9. Share your goals with someone.
Sharing your goals with someone you trust can be a great way of making sure you stay on track, and it can give you someone to help celebrate your milestones with along the way. But you do need to be careful about whom you choose to share your goals with. It’s human nature that some people will be excited about what you want to achieve and be there with you every step of the way, while other people can feel threatened, or jealous, or just put out that you’re making an effort to change your life while they’re not, and they can react negatively and make you doubt yourself. So choose one or two trusted people, who are as positive and ‘can do’ as you are and help each other to achieve everything you want in your lives.

GOAL BOOSTER

Reward yourself! So often we focus on what hasn’t worked in our lives and what we’re yet to achieve, and we forget to acknowledge ourselves for what we do achieve. Make this the year of acknowledging and celebrating your achievements, and share that success with a friend. Within my own close network of friends, we have chosen this year to share all of our ‘Woo-Hoo!’ moments, whether by email, phone or in person, we connect with those people who share our vision and celebrate and encourage each other with some good-old positive reinforcement.

Everyone benefits from goal setting, without it, life can just seem to be happening to us, pushing and pulling us in all kinds of directions and we can start to feel powerless about what’s happening and where we’re heading. Remember to set goals for all areas of your life, it’s not all about what we want to achieve in our working lives, it’s also about ‘having a life’. Living a balanced life is about finding a way to have it all, without losing your health, sense of humour or sanity along the way! It’s about feeding yourself energy, not draining the life out of you – and simple goal-setting can help you to achieve just that.

Penis Enlargement Methods

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Penis enlargement overview – basically, your penis is made up of 3 main areas, 2 large chambers on the top (the technical term for this is the Corpora Cavernosa) and 1 smaller chamber on the bottom (the Corpus Spongisum). When you gain an erection your penis fills with blood, filling these three chambers. The Corpus Spongisum is the chamber used mainly when you urinate and ejaculate. The Corpora Cavernosa however, is the main blood holding chamber of the penis, this is where 90% of all blood is retained each and every time you gain an erection. Your present penis size is limited in both length and width, by the maximum in which the Corpora Cavernosa can fill with blood. The only real method of penis enlargement is to correctly improve and increase your Corpora Cavernosa.

There are several methods of penis enlargement, all of which provide varying levels of success. Here are described
the most used penis enlargement techniques in order of their popularity:

1) Penis enlargement pills – this seems to be the most popular method of penis enlargement mostly because it is very easy to apply. Herbal pills contain a special herbal formula and sexual nutrients to help increase blood circulation to the penile region so penis enlargement can occur. The Corpora Cavernosa will expand larger which in turn will create larger, fuller erections.

2) Natural penis enlargement – this method works by using a set of dedicated exercises and techniques created
especially for penis growth and development. Good penis enlargement programs force the blood to fill all spaces within the Corpora Cavernosa, extending and enlarging the blood spaces with every session just like a body exercise.

3) Penis enlargement devices – the use of traction devices to enlarge the penis is based on the principle of tensile force and the body’s ability to adapt under such influence. By exposing the cells in the penis chambers to a durable and constant traction, the cells will begin to divide and multiply, thus increasing the tissue mass. This process allows the penis chambers to hold more blood than it could before.

Penis enlargement surgery and pumps should be avoided – the first one is a risky and expensive penis enlargement method and the second one do NOT provides permanent results and can cause damages to your penis.

Dog doors – dog and owner reprieve

Buying dog doors online

If you need to buy a dog door then have some fun doing it online. Not only will you find discount prices but you’ll have a huge selection of colors, designs, shapes, sizes and multiple features you haven’t even thought about. You’ll find designs that fit any wall or door with easy install instructions. Finding a dog door couldn’t be much easier than online.

To begin your shopping journey you’ll need to measure your doggie to determine the size you’ll need. Instructions to measuring are on most all sites along with even being able to call if you have additional questions.

Wouldn’t it be great if your dog could open doors? Well, generally speaking they can’t. Therefore freedom and convenience for you and for your dog is right at your finger tips and just a few days away. I don’t know if doggies can think but imagine how we’d feel if we had to ask permission every-time we needed to go potty! Ridiculous, but maybe our little best pet friends would also be happier with the independence that the dog door is going to provide?

We dog owner’s love our dog doors because the flexible, two way panel is safe for any pet. The soft vinyl flap won’t trap or injure tender paws, ears or tails….AND, the permanent magnets assure you of a draft-free, energy efficient closure.

Placing a floor mat on the inside of the dog door is also recommended. A great advantage of having the dog door installed in a wall (instead of a door) is that no one needs to know that you have a dog door. This is important for some people who fear an intruder may crawl through the dog door into your house. However, our guess is that if the dog door is big enough for an intruder to crawl through – he’d be pretty stupid to do it, as he may end up face-to-face with the big dog on the other side of the door! In any event, when you have an in-wall installation.

If you are renting your place of residence, or do not want to cut permanent holes in a wall or door, you can still have a dog door. In this case, you will want to install the dog door in either a sliding glass door, or a regular door. Dog doors that are made for sliding glass doors actually come as a whole panel (patio dog door) that you install in the doorway section; therefore it does not permanently affect your sliding glass doors in any way. Enjoy your little project as your doggie is gonna love you more for it with the new found independence a door dog provides.

Autumn in the Country

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Autumn in the Country is one book in the SENIOR STORIES series of color photography books with simple text designed to stimulate conversation and interaction between seniors with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. The readers will take a visual trip through the countryside to see fall foliage, apple picking, and a country market with apple cider, pots of mums, and piles of pumpkins for sale. The text invites the senior readers to tell what they like along the way, whether they prefer apple pie or pumpkin pie, and whether they’ve ever carved a jack-o’-lantern…Seniors might tell their own autumn memories, or tell a new story about a photo, or just enjoy looking at the images!

Jed Levine, Executive Vice President of the New York City Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, writes,”Autumn in the Country is a book that can be shared by two people or enjoyed alone. For a person with dementia, these evocative pictures may momentarily jog a memory like the taste of a fresh apple pie or the fun of carving a jack-o’-lantern, reawakening a lost experience. These images of life’s pleasures have the potential to stimulate conversation by rekindling warm feelings, which are captured in the pages of this special book.”

The author hopes both seniors and caregivers enjoy sharing the autumn scenes.

Fred Harvey: Founder of the Chain Restaurant

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

In 1850, a 15 year old boy from London arrived in New York City with $10 in his pocket. He found a position as “pot walloper” or dishwasher at an upscale restaurant and began a lifelong passion with fine dining. From this inauspicious beginning, Fred Harvey would change the way people West of the Mississippi dined, create a marketing tool that helped create the world’s largest railroad, champion women in the work force, and build an empire.

As Fred Harvey worked his way west, stopping in New Orleans, St. Louis, and Kansas City, he acquired knowledge of the restaurant industry. When he wasn’t on the floor waiting tables, he was asking questions of chefs and learning everything he possibly could about every aspect of the industry. His goal was to own his own restaurant, and in that endeavor, he accepted a lucrative position as a traveling freight agent on the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad. Traveling conditions were frightful in the late 1860’s and early 1870’s. Trains were dusty and full of mice and flies. Experienced travelers packed their own picnic of fried chicken, hard boiled eggs, cheese and maybe a piece of cake. When that ran out, you were forced to disembark the train and take your chances on whatever was available at the station.

Along the way, anything was possible. At best, one could expect rancid, bitter coffee, brewed once a week. Rotten food was common as well as GI distress and illness from food, and the fear of being left behind in the middle of nowhere made travelers eat as fast as possible, scrambling to get back on the train. Scam artists negotiated with railroad workers to cheat travelers. Before reaching a stop, the conductor would take reservations requiring a 50 cent deposit. When the train arrived at the station, the food would be served just as the conductor called, “All Aboard!” As the travelers ran back, the restaurateur would scrape the food back into pots for the next train passengers and give the railroaders 10 cents per head as their take. These conditions and scams made train travel dangerous to one’s health, and as he worked his way across the West, Harvey realized that there was a market for clean restaurants serving good food at reasonable prices along the line.

In 1875, he approached officials at the Burlington Railroad with his idea of opening restaurants at the train depots. Railroad officials had no interest in supplying food and laughed him out of their office. But as he left the office, one of the officials commented that he should approach the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, which was the most rapidly expanding railroad in the West. Santa Fe liked the idea and a partnership was formed. Harvey opened the first restaurant, The Harvey House, in Topeka, Kansas in 1875. It was an immediate success, not only with travelers, but with local residents as well. Within 9 years, there were 17 Harvey Houses along the Santa Fe route, and the first restaurant “chain” was born.

Because of Harvey, his restaurants and the rapid expansion of the West, Santa Fe became the premiere passenger railroad, as travelers could be assured of exquisite meals in clean dining rooms. Harvey was a shrewd negotiator. When he negotiated his second agreement with Santa Fe, he obtained exclusive rights to all restaurants along their line. Not only did he obtain exclusivity, but the railroad supplied the building and property, passage for Harvey employees, and fresh laundry, ice, meat, and produce shipped in daily.

Harvey’s only problem was his wait staff. The waiters were undependable, coming to work drunk, picking fights, and destroying company property. No one civilized wanted to work out West. Where could he get decent, dependable help? Women.

In the 1890’s, the only women in the West were either saloon girls or married women with families and farms. It was truly the Wild, Wild West, full of cowboys, gunslingers, scam artists and roughnecks. An uncivilized place to be. So, Harvey did something truly revolutionary. He placed an ad in East Coast papers for women 18 – 30 years of age, attractive, educated, and decent. Harvey offered room and board, free train passage, and wages of $17.50 per month. No experience necessary. Harvey wanted to train them his way. But would they come?

They came like gangbusters. In the late nineteenth century, opportunities for women were very limited. The only suitable positions were as teachers, servants, dressmakers, or factory workers. Not only was being a Harvey girl an opportunity to make great money, it was an opportunity for adventure. But being a Harvey girl was not easy.

The standards set by Harvey were rigid. First, they were given a 6, 9, or 12 month contract during which time they were not allowed to marry. If they did, they would be financially penalized by half of their salary and lose their travel privileges. The dormitories were strict, with a house mother overseeing the girls and a curfew of 10 pm every night. If you broke curfew 3 times, you were summarily fired and sent home. The training process was a grueling 30 days of learning strict cleanliness, grooming and table service without pay. The training period was difficult and stressful, but many women spoke of how the experience gave them self-assurance and poise.

They were trained in the Harvey way. Because of the train schedule, timing was incredibly important. When the train arrived in the station, the first course was already on the table. One girl came through and took drink orders as another was right behind her pouring. A system of coffee cup placement was the key to communication. As the first course was being cleared, a manager would come in with trays of hot entrees which would be served by the girls. Generous portions and seconds were the standard. And so was the timing. The trains only stopped for 30 minutes and Harvey provided a refined, delicious dining experience on a schedule.

Cleanliness was also a key to success. If they weren’t busy, the girls were expected to be cleaning; their station, polishing silver or brass, folding napkins or dusting. In spite of the dust and dirt of the West, Harvey Houses were known for their immaculate tidiness. This included the girls’ uniforms. They were expected to be well-groomed, spotless and ironed. If they got dirty during a shift, they were expected to change uniforms immediately. Gum chewing was ground for dismissal. Harvey himself would make surprise inspections and literally perform a white glove test.

Harvey’s chefs were also the best. When Fred Harvey traveled, he would try to lure away the chef anytime he had a superb meal. He paid his people well and believed in the best quality ingredients. The chefs had the authority to create their own menus and pay handsomely for supplies and produce. Not unlike great restaurants today, Harvey Houses had the first choice and the best supply of meat and fresh vegetables. Hence, they had the ability to provide diners with first class meals.

Harvey was also a believer of promoting men and women from within. Many women started out as a waitress, became head waitress, and some even became managers. Another way he emphasized respect and respectability was in the name he chose for his wait staff. His girls were never referred to as waitresses. Rather, they were known by and proud to be called Harvey Girls. Being a Harvey Girl meant poise, respect, and independence.

Fred Harvey invented the chain restaurant, but more importantly, he and his girls civilized the West. Not only did they provide a service to the travelers and the communities through their restaurants and mere presence, they became the standard of civility and dining. Many Harvey girls did find marriage and adventure. Many had lifelong, fascinating careers in Harvey’s empire that would have been impossible back East. Some paid for college and went on to become professionals in other careers. No matter what paths they found themselves on, the Harvey Girls became the matriarchs of the West.

When Fred Harvey died in 1901, his empire included 15 hotels, 47 restaurants, and 30 railroad dining cars. At its peak, the Harvey House restaurants were the most successful in the country, with 100 locations, and provided the Santa Fe Railroad with the marketing tool and support to become the largest passenger train company in the United States. During both World Wars, the Harvey House was instrumental in providing meals to the troops being moved across the country on trains. But the Wright brothers, the automobile, and the Great Depression led to the demise of the empire. Fine dining and civility in the West are legacies that Fred Harvey and his Girls bequeathed us all.

Goa paradise

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

This former Portugal colony, now the smallest Indian state, has becoming more and more popular resort destination. Colonized by the Portugal in 16th century, Goa still has a lot of traces of their stay, although they left in 1960s. Since that time Goa has gained a reputation of hippies’ paradise, which has attracted a lot of people from Europe and America.
Hippies still live in Goa, but mostly in the very north of it. All the rest of Goa has become a beach resort destination.
Goa is divided into 3 parts – the North, the Center and the South.
The North is the most crowded place, known not only for its beaches, but also for its clubs and other entertainments. The biggest resorts of Goa – Condolim, Calangute and Baga are located on the north. Condolim is considered to be a place for the rich Indians, and Baga is the most popular among the European tourists, especially from the Great Britain and Sweden. The beaches of Condolim, Calangute and Baga are filled with sun beds and are always overcrowded. The are an enormous number of the local traders with fruits, necklaces and other things which they try to sell to tourists.
If you prefer more isolated place you can go to Mojim beach, something about 15 kilometers to the north from Baga. There are just a few sun beds and no traders disturbing you. The most isolated and distant beach on the North is Arombol – about 40 kilometers from Baga. Palms, sand, sea and almost no one but you – that really looks like paradise, doesn’t it? If you are interested in cultural attractions there you can see Tirambol fort, the most Northern point of Goa.
Almost all the sightseeing in Goa is connected with the Portugal reign period. Usually tourists are shown Old Goa –the former capital and the present capital – Panjim city.
Old Goa stands on Mandovi river and was the capital city till the middle of the XIX century. Then cholera began and people left the place and founded the next capital – Panjim city, also on Mandovi river. The Portuguese left the rich cultural heritage and spread Catholicism in Goa. Now almost 30 % of the population practices Catholicism. In other parts of India this data is about 10 %. Both these cities lay in the central part of the state, the calmest district with rather good hotels and half-deserted beaches.
The Southern Goa is beginning to overtake the north in popularity. There is an opinion that the hotels there are more prestigious and the beaches are cleaner. However, the entertainment industry is not very developed there and those who like to go to the club, markets and so on are to visit the Northern Goa. The most popular nightclub is Cubana located on the hill not far from Baga. Goa is the motherland of trans music and trans parties are also very popular.
One of the interesting must-sees in Goa is Anjuna Saturday night market. Every Saturday from 15.00 till 02.00 you can buy different souvenirs and hand-made goods by hippies. Usually they play music, give different concerts.
The best time for visiting Goa is from November till April. From May till October there is a rain season.
You may think that there is nothing special about Goa, but still some people coming there, prefer never return back.

Coffee Chemistry, Or Pour Me Another Cup Of That Sumatran Cheese Decaf

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Scientists have identified more than 2,000 compounds that make up tastes and
smells. A whopping 400 of them – 20% – are found in coffee. That’s why coffee is so
interesting to the palate. It’s complex!

Gas spectrographs – devices that measure flavor profiles – have identified an
unmatched range of flavors in coffee, from Darjeeling tea, chocolate, vanilla and
violets to truffles, soup and cheese!

You may be surprised to learn that such a powerful flavor as coffee could be
described as “delicate.” But that’s the case with properly roasted Arabica bean
coffees.

Two beans, or not two beans

Coffee beans come in two varieties, hardy Robustas and lighter Arabicas. Arabica
beans are harder to grow, and hence more expensive to buy, but they yield less
acidic, more aromatic beverages. And they have almost half the caffeine and
stomach-upsetting oils of Robustas.

Different coffee beans want to be roasted differently. Delicate Arabica beans
may be used to produce an extremely dark, almost burnt French roast, but
the longer roasting period destroys the delicate compounds that give the beans
their intricate flavor notes of flowers, fruit and honey.

In the end, coffee is certainly demonstrating its chemistry with consumers. The
world’s leading coffee retailer reports that 35 million customers plunked down US
$6.4 billion in the fiscal year ending October 2, 2005. If you’re in the restaurant
business, those are numbers that are sure to quicken your pulse.

Success with Adwords

Google’s Adwords service has brought success to many businesses by providing them with a large amountl of highly targeted traffic from as little as 2 cents per visitor. However, there is probably an equal number of webmasters who have paid for adwords and seen little benefit or have indeed made substantial losses. If the latter applies to you, then the following may be of some benefit -

1. Design

First of all, decide how the layout of your ad will appear. Secondly, you should consider what you want to be included in the title and what keywords or details you wish to present to potential visitors to your site. Ensure that your text will encourage only targeted visitors to your site in order to avoid the expense of wasted clicks. Read through all the Google TOS and guidelines before placing your ad or else you risk having it disabled which can lead to charges.

A fair proportion of internet surfers are still very experienced and click on adwords without even realising what it is. Therefore it is a good tip to list prices in your text, so that you can put off clicks from those who would have no intention of purchasing your product or service in the first place.

2. Brainstorm

Before beginning a campaign it is advisable to write down as many keywords and phrases as you can think of. The most popular terms are likely to have been bid up to a high price, making all your click-throughs expensive. Think about what your prospective customers would type if they were looking for what you were offering.

When you have thought of as many words as you can, glance over your list and rearrange what you have into new, useable phrases. Some will be way off target and discarded instantly, amongst the others choose the one that sounds best and you should have a great sales pitch that won’t break the bank.

3. Optimise

Do not go along with google’s suggested cost per click. This is always far higher than necessary. Many advertisers do not understand that their click through rate affects their position to the same degree as how much they pay per click. For example, if you pay 5 cents per click for the phrase “page rank” and your competition pays 10 cents and achieves a click through rate of 0.5%, then in order to surpass this person in position you will only need to double your click through rate, to anything above 1%, whilst still only paying half of what they are Generally speaking, I would always recommend paying half of the google suggested figure for your clicks, the exception being if your business is in a highly competitive field in terms of adwords marketing use.

Now that you have your keywords and pricing in place, you should set your daily budget relatively low for a short time, allowing you to see how successfully this campaign is running, without risking too much money. Leave your campaign to run for a few days, and take good care to note which keywords are leading to sales or enquiries.

4. Experiment

You should continually monitor the performance of your keywords and Ad groups and try to change tiny details from time to time, perhaps one word here and there occassionally. Changing even one word can have an affect on the success of your campaign, either positively or negatively. If you find google disabling your ads because you are failing to obtain enough clicks then go back to brainstorming and generate another set of keywords and phrases which may work better for you.

Even if adwords are working supremely well for you, constant monitoring is important. If other people realise you are generating high profits then it is likely they will start to tap into your market. Continue to experiment with your campaigns to ensure you stay at the forefront of your field.

Simple Lawnmower Maintenance

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Do you have trouble starting your lawnmower up in the spring? Before deciding to take your lawnmower in for repair, try these few simple suggestions. After completing them most of the time your lawnmower will fire up and run like a champ.

Pull and clean the Spark Plug

Most of the time simply cleaning the spark plug will solve your lawnmower woes. To do this, disconnect the wire attached to the end of the spark plug. Then using a wrench or a Ratchet/Socket, remove the spark plug. If the spark plug is black or wet looking, you have probably found your problem on why the lawnmower is not starting.

Using fine grit sandpaper, sand the top of the spark plug down to bare metal. Make sure you sand all around the edges of the piece of metal (tab) that sits just above the electrode. Make sure that there is a gap between the metal tab and the electrode. If you still have the lawnmower manual and a feeler gauge you can adjust the gap to the specifications. However, if there is a small gap it is probably sufficient for the spark plug to operate correctly.

Make sure the spark plug is free of dust and dry. Then screw it back into the cylinder and connect back the wire to the end of the spark plug. Then try starting the lawn mower.

Check for Oil

Make sure there is oil in the lawnmower and that it is at the proper level.

Check for Fuel

Make sure there is gas in the lawn mower. If you have old gas in the lawnmower and did not put in a fuel stabilizer at the end of the season, replace the gas. If you had drained the gas tank at the end of the previous season, then fill the tank at least half full with new gas.

Check the Fuel Line

Like many of us, at the end of the previous lawn mowing season we turn off the fuel line switch. Make sure it is in the on position. If you have done all of the above and the engine will not fire, then check to see if the fuel is getting to the carburetor. Temporarily disconnect the fuel hose from the carburetor and see if gas pours out. If so reconnect the hose. If not, then check the fuel line. It may be gummed up or the fuel filter is clogged.

Check the Air Filter

Make sure the Air Filter is clean. If it is dirty and oily then replace it. If it just dirty shake it and knock out some of the dust. This may solve your problem; however I would still recommend replacing it.

Clean the Carburetor

First turn off the fuel line. Disassembling and cleaning the carburetor is not as bad as you may think. Usually there is a nut on the underside of the carburetor. Remove this and pull the bottom portion of the carburetor off. Clean the inside of this lower portion of the carburetor and then make sure the float valve moves up and down freely. The float valve is a plastic object about 1.5″ in diameter that hangs down when you remove the lower portion of the carburetor.

Reconnect the lower portion of the carburetor and turn on the fuel line again.

Try restarting the lawnmower. If it still does not work after performing all of these procedures, then take it to a repair shop. However, from personal experience these procedures usually solve the problem.

Sharpen the Blade

Finally, make sure you sharpen the blade. This will ensure you minimize the torque on the engine while cutting the grass. Not to mention, your lawn will get a more even cut.
